Coming Soon: FST Sessions offered at AnyTime Fitness Berkeley, on Solano Ave
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST™)
What is FST™ Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a pain free, table based, assisted stretching method that opens space in the joint capsules using gentle traction, then elongates the muscles and fascia to provide better mobility, stability and joint health. It is a science based system of dynamic movement based stretching.
Every session is an individualized assessment of function and mobility to determine the specific parameters of assisted stretching to be applied in order to achieve positive outcomes in client function. FST is for all age groups, fitness levels, athletic levels, pro athletes, and for every person looking to improve their quality of movement.
How FST Can Help You? Pain - is often reduced or eliminated Stress - is immediately and significantly reduced Sleep - finally; wake feeling rested and refreshed Appearance - improves posture, look healthier and feel more confident Mobility - is improved after just one session Weight - greater mobility and stability leads to more effective training
How is FST different? Why Stretch Fascia vs Muscle? Fascia surrounds each muscle, connects them to each other and penetrates deep inside them, it also connects the muscles to tendons, ligaments and bone to form a body-wide, smart functional network. For pain relief and to reduce joint/muscle pain and bring mobility back to the joints.
Is it like Massage, Pilates or Yoga? FST is completely different yet completely compatible with other methods of therapy and training.
Traditional Stretching Contrasted with Fascial Stretch Therapy Traditional stretching is commonly performed as a static stretch for one isolated muscle held at a point of slight discomfort for 15-30 seconds (and sometimes longer). It is often performed for 2-3 repetitions per muscle and in linear planes. Fascial Stretch Therapy does not include static stretching or holding a stretch of any kind and instead of isolating a muscle, focuses on functionally stretching muscles within their fascial net connections. Duration of stretches are not counted but are breath guided to down regulate the nervous system where and when tension is excessive. The intensity of any stretch is initially limited to a very gentle tissue barrier called “R-1” (i.e., first resistance felt by the therapist) to ensure client safety and best response. Instead of linear movements, FST is performed with what is called the StretchWave™, which is a gentle and slow oscillating side to side and/or up and down motion coordinated with breathing to render three-dimensional, multi-planar movement more effectively. This technique ensures more thorough tissue access and whole-body response. Is it based on Science? The first research into the effects of Fascial Stretch Therapy started in 1997 with founder Ann Frederick's thesis found at https://stretchtowin.com/page/FST_Research

I had injured my shoulder and was limited in what I could do. With a firm yet gentle touch, Florian skillfully worked in improving the function of my shoulder. Due to Florian's FST, I have now fully regained full range of motion of my shoulder. Apart from the shoulder injury I brought, I also found that Florian was able to help me with the inner work I am engaged in. With his support and guidance I explored several blind spots I had on a somatic and emotional level. I saw how tensions in my body are connected to past events from my life, and it allowed me 'to dance with my shadow' in a safe holding environment. I often feel a deep release of energy and am left refreshed in body, mind and spirit at the end of our sessions. I highly recommend Florian for the revitalizing care you deserve! Helga A., Berkeley
